I intend to work on different tuning methods of PD controllers for a BLDC Machine. I would like to get the different tuning methods with their tuning algorithms based on the critical gain and critical period of the step response of a system.
A. you can use practical methods like Z-N method.
B. you can use meta heuristic methods like GA, PSO, ....
C. you can use frequency response of your system to design your controller,
D. and you can yous root locus based methods.

If you have transfer function, you can easily implement any one of the methods mentioned above. sisotool in matlab will help you much in the controller design.
