We have information regarding that that TSS can be measure through a spectrometer (Brix meter) else is there any manual or alternative methods for its measurement?
Pankaj Kumar Yadav I forgot to mention that while Abbe Refractometer and Handheld Refractometer could be used for both solid and liquid samples like fruits and vegetables, the hydrometer could be used ONLY for liquid samples.
Dear professor Duried Alwazeer Do there any manual method we perform at home, I am working on research and due to lockdown, there is not access to lab or devices.
Dear Pankaj Kumar Yadav you can find in the enclosed file a very helpful and useful Technical Procedures Manual of USDA that explains step-by-step procedure the previously mentioned methods of Brix measurement as well as other fruit products-related physicochemical quality parameters.
Total soluble solid mean, amount of total soluble solid present in the unit volume of solution. The TSS content of the fruit is usually obtained from assessing the degrees Brix of the fruit. The TSS or sugar content measures and includes the carbohydrates, organic acids, proteins, fats and minerals of the fruit. Total soluble solids may be determined by means of Refractometer. Brix is a measure of total soluble solids (TSS) in the case of pure sucrose solutions. Generally fruit juices contain more sugar than other soluble constituents, and hence, Brix provides useful guide of TSS or sugar content.
