Yes, Refractometer is easy available instrument which could be useful in the field while carrying out studies especially in remote saline wetlands.
I agree with the other answers in that refractometers are useful for measuring salinity in the field. For higher precision, you could use a portable electronic meter that measures conductivity and uses standard equations to convert conductivity to salinity. Alternately, you could measure chlorinity in the lab and then convert that to salinity.
You asked about measuring salinity in the soils of saline wetlands. Since wetlands are generally wet, soil salinity is usually measured as the salinity of the wetland porewater rather than the salinity of a saturated soil paste. There are many methods for collecting wetland porewater – see the following book chapters.

I am a young soil scientist, so my perspective in saline wetland is terrestrial and in my home country (Algeria ) , there are a lot of saline wetland which we call locally sebkhra, so I want to know the best method to study this saline environment, and thank you for your reference.
Dear Yacine. I think you already have your answer. You can use hand Refractometer, conductivity meter and convert it to salinity, you can measure chloride content and convert it to salinity. The first one is the easiest one and give you direct result. You can see the articles also. Regards.
