Whether article is just ISI articles then how about other kinds of article.
There are different kinds of writing such as definition, description, compare and contrast, so on, whether they are considered as article as well.
Where is the place of ISI articles.
Essay represent subjective topic & for articles there is no limit for the subject & topics which the writer represent . An Essay is a subjective matter while in case of article it cover wide range of subjects covering well many readers provided the article deserve an interesting topic for the guideline of readers .

Hi, the differences are based on the format, purpose and content. An article is a piece of writing that can be found in magazines, encyclopedias, websites, newspapers or other publications; the content and the structure of an article may depend on the source ; the main aim of an article is to inform the readers about a certain topic. An essay is a piece of writing that describes, analyzes and evaluates a certain topic or an issue . It is a brief, concise form of writing that contains an introduction, a body that is comprised of few support paragraphs, and a conclusion. An essay may inform the reader, maintain an argument, analyse an issue or elaborate on a concept.
Article has a formal structure and length (may take up to 20 pages, but is usually measured in words: 5000-8000). Essay is normally shorter (usually, no longer than 10 pages) and has more freedom in terms of text structure.
Difference Between Article and Essay
Definition
Article is a piece of writing that is included with others in a newspaper, magazine or other publication.
Essay is a short piece of writing on a particular subject.
Purpose
Article is written to inform the readers about some concept.
Essay is generally written as a response to a question or proposition.
Format
Articles follow heading and subheadings format.
Essays are not written under headings and subheadings.
Citations
Articles do not require citations or references.
Essays require citations and references.
Visual Effects
Articles are often accompanied by photographs, charts and graphs.
Essays do not require photographs.
Tone
Articles are objective as they merely describe a topic.
Essays are subjective as they analyse and criticize a topic.

The problem there is that I publish articles in journals and they definitely do need citations and references.
