I feel little bit confused with these two terms Edge and Fog,according to my survey study on these topics ,I found that Fog is closer level to user rather than a cloud and another side Edge is an environment where we implement computation directly on the devices it self,but my doubt is most of the research papers form reputed resources like IEEE Assess papers states that both are same and some authors treats Edge architecture same as fog (reference link :ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8123913).i stagnated at this point ,any one please clarify my doubt so that i will continue my study on either Edge computing or Fog Computing.

Edge Computing (EC) pursues the same goal as Fog Computing (FC):
to position intelligence and computing power as close as possible to data sources.
The main difference between EC and FC is that the intelligence and computing power are provided in different places. With FC, this functionality can be delivered anywhere on the Internet continuum between IoT Clouds and Internet Edge.
With EC, it is only implemented directly on the Internet Edge, often in Edge Gateways (IoT Access Gateways).

Fog computing is initially introduced by Cisco and refers to a multi-layer architecture with many fog nodes on intermediate levels between end-users and cloud. Mobile edge computing (MEC) was initially defined for the architecture that computing resources are placed next to the wireless link. Nowadays, MEC is evolved to Multi-access Edge Computing by ETSI organization. Edge Coputing refers to both Fog and MEC. I believe that Fog Computing starts to be less used and the term Edge Computing is used more in literature now.
