You may also target software profiling. The topic of improvement and discussion of software projects for different size of organization still needed to be discussed.

Follow my 1-4 steps to gain a good knowledge on your research interest.

(1) Go to scholar.google.com

(2) Search your topic related articles.

(3) Download some articles.

(4) Read each article for three times.

After reading 5-8 articles, you will find a snap shoot of the ongoing research in your interest.

It is really hard to know a research track/topic by asking others. Better policy is to

(1) Download 5 recently published research articles from IEEE/Elsevier/Springer journals.

(2) Read each one for two times.

(3) If you do not understand the terminologies, find these in google.

(4) Read each article onetime more.

If you follow that, no need to seek a topic from others. Rather you will earn sufficient knowledge to provide suggestion to others.

it is not so simple - all of these publication are really 2 years back dated - since it takes research time and publication time - so when it is publish you are too late to address it.

you have to find topic which is more current and updated. I believe you must connect yourself to the industry needs in order to do some meaningful contribution
