Would one argument be that: The recovery is considered the affect of stiffness (since the stapes footplate is fixed in position)? If so, how is it that the stiffness component affected is considered a recovery?

Another controversy in the measurement of bone conduction hearing thresholds arose when the calibration standard for bone conduction audiometers was changed sometime around the year 2000. I can’t remember the details but the effect in the clinic was that there were many audiograms with bone conduction thresholds apparently worse than the air condunction thresholds, a situation which shouldn’t happen.... perhaps there is a audiometric calibration expert here that can describe the change in the calibration standards?
