when the biomass pellets produced, there are specific conditions and adhesive substances. this substances create bonds between particles of biomass materials with each other.
This depend upon temperature one use , lower room temperture you may use, if you use mechanical one , thermo mechanical at temperture needed the lignin in the residue in very good amount can act as binder tus no need for adhesives
You can pelletize lignocellulosic feedstocks without a binder. THe warmed lignin and hemicellulosis hold the pellets together. If it does not work in your process you can add 1% cornstarch as a binder. Important factors:
- feedstock composition (lignin, cellulose, hemicelluloses, ash) and moisture content,
- temperature,
- pressure,
- time,
- pellet size and shape.
Pellet producers can add inhibitors to avoid boiler corrosion from Na and K content.
