What are the adulterants used in different spices like turmeric, chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, black pepper, cinnamon powder etc? I am looking for categorized answers. Looking forward to your help dear!!!
Really a time demanding question. Actually everything which are less costly than spices can be mixed with it. Interestingly businessman mix with the same coloured inert material for getting maximum profit.
Adulteration of food is highly rampant in many countries of the world. The spices are commonly used in kitchen of every household. A large number of adulterants such as argemone seed, bark, brick powder, chalk powder, dirt, papaya seed, saw dust, starch , stone etc.. are deliberately mixed to various types of spices. In addition, artificial colors are also added. I give example of black pepper in which papaya seeds are frequently incorporated. I strongly emphasize that adulteration of every food including spices must be prevented

Our attached 2018 review paper "Herb and spice fraud; the drivers, challenges and detection" gives a useful table of recorded adulterants, including dyes, in spices and herbs.
The common adulterants which are added in to these spices are sand, dirt, earth gritty matter, artificial colour, starch, chalk powder, bark, stone, saw dust, lead chromate and argemone seed etc.

Ground stones of different colors and sizes are commonly used so that they blend in with the actual spice. For example, fine brick powder is used to adulterate chili powder. Coarsely ground tamarind seeds are sued for adulterating coffee grounds and saw dust of various colors to adulterate turmeric, coriander and cumin.
