The use of chi-square and Fisher's exact test is abundant in Venezuelan epidemiological reports, depending on the number of observations. In prevalence studies, what other alternatives could be used? Is it possible to use association statistics, not just trends?

If frequency distribution tables are used, no statistical test are required. However if cross-tabulation of qualitative data are made then the Chi-Squared test is used. In case of comparing means (quantitative data), then either t-test or anova can be used.
If out of descriptive studies, nested case-control studies are designed, the analysis follws accordingly.
