Laser is basically a light source. The major difference between this light source and any other LED, filament bulb, fluorescent tubes, etc is that the light coming out of the laser is highly coherent and directed. In general terms, laser light emission has an almost uniform wavelength over all the emitted light (i;e the coherent light) and has high intensity (since the directed emission). Assuming you are using a continuous wave(CW) laser source, the above two parameters are the most prominent ones to be considered while using in any application. All you have to do is control the intensity of laser light, since in most of the commercial CW medical laser sources, power control of the laser beam is provided. If you are using a pulsed laser source, one can have control over the amount of energy dumped in one single pulse (hence the power control in one pulse) and the duration of pulse. Effectively via the control of pulse timings, one can easily control the laser intensity over a wide range.
I guess depending upon what kind of treatment is under way, CW or the pulse lasers are used. In some cases wavelength tuning may also be used depending upon which light colour is absorbed by the organic tissue under treatment. These class of lasers can provide you with the control parameter of selecting wavelengths as desired in the work.
In short you can have laser parameters like power control, exposure time of the laser light on the organic tissues and the wavelength of the laser.
