Lineaments are extractable linear features from satellite and aerial images, which are some how correlated with geological structures such as faults. Several indicators are used to indicate the existence of lineaments such as NDVI, drainage patterns, rocks outcrop truncations, etc ..
What are the best indicators for lineaments in the satellite images such as Landsat?
For a meaningful interpretation see the topography and drainage. They are important manifestation of earth processes.
It is also important to know the geological structure rather just sketching lines on the LS or any other image.

I think the Landsat images can be used to characterize lineaments. However, you could use Landsat data together with SRTM DEM data to better distinguish those geological structure.

First of all, thank you very much for the interesting comment. I agree with you. In fact, I used SRTM in my work and I have own names to lineaments: Geometrical lineaments to the one extracted from the DEMs and spectral lineaments to the ones extracted from the satellite images.

Along with visual interpretation, you can also go for digital extraction methods (e.g., PCA, directional filters, Hough transform etc.). Most of the image processing software have in-built tools and if you are quite good in scripting, you can do it yourself.
am agree with the above answer, you can use landsat image and combine with hough or canny. On the literature exist a combination of band for that problem. On other hand, i recommend you check the papers of Arellano Baeza on elsevier; he uses landSat and Aster Images for the study of earthquake and faults
I`d say you better take, for instance, 3 sites where you know there are lineaments. You`ll observe that they occur in groups. Some parallel and some perpendicular groups (if you have faults), and also many groups in almost all directions if you have a fractured site. After this observation you´ll be able to distinguish not only a fractured from a faulted zone but also if you have rock layers (in this case, your lineaments will be only parallel). Exceptions to these rules are very very rare.
