Dear Friends,

We are currently doing a project on detailed micro level aquifer mapping. The salient features of the area are as follows:

• Hard rock terrain comprised of Gneiss, Schist and Granites.

• Annual average rainfall 680 mm.

• Adjacent to major watershed divide.

• Depth to water levels more than 50 m below ground level.

• Ground water is the only source for irrigation.

• Majority of area covered with sandy soils.

• Cropping pattern: Coconut and Aracanut plantation.

• Elevation is 850 to 720 m amsl.

• The aquifers are over-exploited.

Please suggest the best management practices to be adopted for sustainability of ground water resources, sustainability of crop yields and related management practices.

Regards,

Dr.Vittala
