I am developing a modular educational robotics kit and looking for more robust and practical alternatives to traditional jumpers. The goal is to ensure secure and durable electrical connections while facilitating frequent assembly and disassembly by students. Would magnetic connectors, quick-release terminals, or other solutions be viable for this context?
For some of our underwater robots, we use Wago quick-release connectors. These ensure a good electrical connection and seem quite good at handling vibrations without any wires coming loose. Depending on the amount of space available, it is possible to buy mounting brackets that fit DIN rails. However, we have 3D printed some mounts to fit inside our specific water-tight control bottles. They come as either 2,3 or 5-pin connectors and can handle wires from 0.2 to 4 mm2.
