As a young researcher, I have seen many researchers going into collaboration on many projects. How does this collaboration work? What are the benefits attached to it? Do you think it is worth embarking on?
Collaboration helps in getting new views and exchange of thoughts which is an essential part of the research. So, it will eventually broaden your view and you will be able to identify something very important which you may have ignored if not collaborated.
I recommend collaborating on research projects whenever possible for several reasons. To begin with, you get insights into how others work. Unless you are an extremely efficient and effective researcher, there is much to learn from others. There is also the possibility of getting your name on more publications. This is the currency of the researcher, so this too is important. Besides that, you just never know what you might learn or otherwise gain from collaboration with other researchers, or non-researchers for that matter. Ideally, the collaboration also benefits those who you collaborate with also, so make your skills and preferences known to those you may want to collaborate with. Of course, you must be selective with collaborations if you are time-poor.
