I understand that 5S is a workspace organisation technique that helps create and maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of a work area. It helps create a cleaner work areas, more organisation, safer working conditions, less wasted time, efficient work processes and practice and more available space. Nevertheless, it is to my understanding that most of the industries in Fiji do not practice 5S methodology. Henceforth, what are the barriers for not implementing 5S methodology in Fiji`s industries?
Hi! The implementation of 5's needs to be taken by the company as a continuous process. If the company already operates based on the framework of ISO, EFQM or six sigma then it can facilitate the implementation of 5's to a greater extent. The quality culture is very much important to implement 5's in the company. Following can be a good read regarding the barriers in implementing 5's.
based from my personal experiences the most critical barriers in the implementing 5's is more on cultural issues that need to be cultural specific approach in dealing such issues
Every organisation should adopt 5S methodology and should be driven by the management. Training the employees on the benefits of 5S with simple examples would reinforce their beliefs. A place for everything and a everything in its place makes life of an employee easy and saves lot of time. The barriers for implementation I foresee crop up because of distrust , attitude and poor work culture.The success of 5S is sustaining the initiate without giving up.
The development of the manufacturing industry in developing countries is an important way to expand the economic development space of the island, and there are huge hidden worries after the development boom. Therefore, the implementation of 5S methodology management requirements in the manufacturing industry, in the marine environment gradually deteriorating today is very important, over-emphasis on island development, will only further affect the island's ecological environment protection and sustainable use of resources.
