Over sea, it is well-known that scatterometer data are fundamental for wind measurement. However, apart soil moisture (e.g., from ASCAT) and freeze/thaw detection, in what land applications you are considering scatterometer data (e.g., backscatter)?
More specifically, a lot of C-band (AMI, ASCAT, ...) and Ku-band (QUIKSCAT, OSCAT, RAPIDSCAT, HY2A, PR, DPR, ...) scatterometer data are available over land. Are you considering/using these datasets for some topics, applications, research activity?
The ERS scatterometer is an active radar C-band (5.255 GHz), designed primarily to measure wind vectors on the surface of seas. The raw product is the backscattering coefficient of the surface, which can also be collected on land and ice to provide information on the distribution of one of these (vegetation cover monitoring for example).
