I would like to know what advantages are offered by using sulphuric acid as the activating agent when preparing activated carbon from date pits
Any relevant research. data or links would be greatly appreciated
As usual HCl is more popular. But usage of sulphuric acid is more comfortable due to evaporation reasons (concentrated HCl evaporates significantly).
I use H3PO4. But he give more microporsity on activated carbon. H3PO4 have more advantage that HCl and H2SO4 when it is use as the activating agent.
Activated carbon used for gold & silver adsorption is activated with temperature (usually from coconut shell), as well as for regeneration after one or two cycles of adsorption. In gold the HCl (or less frequently HNO3) is used to eliminate carbonates in the micropores of the activated carbon.
Other uses of activated carbon probably are different.
