In the light of water saving and efficient fertilizer usage particularly aerobic rice,  provision of surface drip fertigation (with 0.8 m lateral spacing provided with drippers at 0.3 m distance) scheduled at 125 % Pan Evaporation value for clay soil / 150 % open Pan Evaporation value for sandy soil + STCR based NPK fertigation + biofertigation of Azophosmet @ 500 mL ha-1during panicle initiation and flag leaf stages is recommended by TNAU. But there is need to evolve suitable package for the light soils especially for summer season is the need of the hour so that crop can be explored better for its yield potential.

SRI the System for Rice Intensification is based on transplanting rice at an earlier growth stage 10 days after planting using single plantlets and using a wider that customary equidistant transplant spacing 25 by 25 cm and combining growth stage and arrangement with intensive early weed control. The system favors greater rooting and organic amendments are engaged in the fertility program. The results with the system have been impressive according to the practioners. The optimization of rice is very critical since such a wide population depend upon the crop.  In terms of soil quality the ability to stimulate more prolific root systems is important for the sustaining of soil carbon levels so important to soil ability to maintaining water use efficiency and stimulating greater absorption of mineral nutrition. 

After I posted my question, I came across the attached paper.  May I have comments on this paper as an advancement in nutrient management in rice?

 The urea-HA nanohydride at 50% of the recommended rate (50 kg N/ha) produced 7.9 tons/ha grain yield with 48% of N use efficiency.With around 25 kg N uptake from the innovative N urea- HA nanohydide the crop yield was 7.9 tons and the approximate  total N uptake could be around 150-160/ha(from my calculation).It is difficult to imagine where from the crop derived approximately125 kgN/ha.Many of the innovative fertilizer products developed are not being used because of prohibitive costs.As I understand it is a difficult proposition to meet macronutrient requirements using nanofertilizers/other nanoproducts.

Other than having C4 rice( yet to be a reality)  , SSNM is propagated on a large scale .  4R- Nutrient Stewardship using Nutrient Expert has come out  as big success. 

I think using nanparticls is good way for this idea

Lot of innovation developed by scientist for increasing NUE but now needs how to  adopted by farmers. Scientist also have in our  mind for economic factor.

Dr.Yaduvanshi,I agree with your view.There have been numerous soil ,crop/cropping system,product,technique based management opportunities to increase N use efficiency.But the problem is to tailer them according to farmers'  needs,resources and economics and make them adopt the technologies on their farms.For information, I am referring to a recent review paper available on researchgate.

I believe taking a critical look at the processes controlling solution concentration dynamics of ammonium, nitrate, and phosphate ions in a soil-water-plant system to determine those to be properly controlled will enhance rice yield, NUE and reduce nutrient  losses to the environment. Find attached for amplification on this.

Since 80% of the air is gaseous nitrogen and very efficient means of biological nitrogen fixation are available the coupling of biolological nitrogen fixation more into the overall crop system is compelling. The use of winter season vetch cover crop is sufficient to produce all the nitrogen needs for a summer rice crop. The increase of Phosphorus efficiency is a more compelling issue as many researchers suggest it is indeed limited and it constitutes the more expensive fertilizer ingredient. Reseach suggest fertilizer P efficiency of less than 20%. The targeting of seed application with P solubilizing microbes is probably an approach which would greatly increase P efficiency. 

The starter application of phosphate can be applied directly in the seed vicinity without salt issues. It is needed to get agressive root systems and the response is mostly in early growth. The use of mycorrhizae and root bacteria can greatly increase the extension of the root system to mobilize soil P and to solubilize P through production of phosphatase and organic acids. These agents also increase the defensive metabolism of the plants.
