A magazine is definitely not the same as a Journal. Magazines normally carry popular articles, not original work. A Scientific Journal publishes original scientific work not published elsewhere. 'Letters' or 'Notes' are of shorter length. It may include a comment on an already published recent paper by the author or someone else. Normally, Editor takes decisions on 'Letters' and 'Notes'. Seldom are they are sent to reviewers. They get published quickly. A full length paper in a reputed Journal has to undergo peer review process and may take up to an year or so to get published.
P. K. Karmakar Sir, I found word limit on magazine like IEEE Software 6000 words. Some transactions and journals have limit of 8-pages IEEE format. But magazines with impact factor have minimal introduction, methodology and related literature meanwhile major focus is on results. In some cases reputed magazine articles even don't have results and a generic description of a couple of or three pages get published.
Mohammed Lafi , I think there are rapid publication journals as well like IEEE Access provides first review within a month. There are Elsevier, Springer, PLOS and Willey Rapid publication journals as well which provide review decision in 4-8 weeks. Moreover, I feel conference an expensive way in terms of money and time, as registration and traveling both demand money. An average conference in other country normally requires 2000+ Dollars.

Letters are to my knowledge also known as Letters to the editor and are less formal and much shorter than a Journal article. They are reactions and discussions by other researchers to a previously published paper in that journal. They are fast to publish but you must be emminent and knowledable to write one and get it published...
