Stating and examining assumptions for chosen topics/theses in post-graduate academic writing appears to be less emphasized in academic writing texts. I am looking for some good sources for the latter and would welcome any suggestions you may have.

It is instructional approach that integrate critical thinking skills of examining theoretical assumptions. It involve formaltions theoretical questions; identify assumptions and its implications and lastly develop feasible positions.

Post graduate education requires both conceptual and development understanding of the subject. Therefore readiness assessment of the student is required to be carried out before venturing into the kind of approach to be followed.

Skmetimes as educators, we can make assumptions about the expected level of knowledge and even literacy of our learners. As explained by Semiyu, the only way forward is to support them. Possibly, this can be done through dedicated workshops on "Presebtation / Report Writing", and with the continuity of this, the least of our expected learners may emerge as the best towards the end of their studies.
I'm going to veer of the well-trodden paths for my suggestion here...and I'll preface it with the observation that my students really seemed to enjoy these activities.
(1) I used the various adverts related to the "Like a Girl" campaign by Always. From here I asked students to create research questions (RQs) that might be studied using developmental trajectory data from ages 6 to 18. Finally, I asked them to critique the data or their RQs based on potential flaws or hidden assumptions.
I've used other "less conventional" snippets (e.g., scenes from Mike & Molly and The Big Bang Theory). I'm happy to share more if you are interested.
