3) Failure to document project expectations
4) Failure to comply with the Mechanic's Lien Process
5) Failure to follow building codes or regulations or standards

Well there are various of common problems related to construction projects.Its all depends on the type of projects. Big or complex project usually have many problems compare to small projects.
From my point of view and knowledge, list of common problems in construction project are as follows:
a) Delay in payment
b) Dispute between parties (Client,contractor,consultant,employee)
c) Political conflict
d) poor communication between construction parties
e) Financial problems
f) lack of project organization
g) delay construction time

For your questions, it is more likely to happen in large project.
Main contractor that manage and separate work packages to other sub contractor usually will face problems like:
1) Failure or delay in passing site possession to sub contractor
2) Poor communication between the client, contractor and sub contractor
3) Delay in payments if main contractor fail or delay in claiming work done in every package
4) Failure to deliver variation required from client to sub contractor
5) Delay in work packages done by sub contractor or main contractor leads to delay in the whole project
Actually construction projects are unique. problems are not common will depends of type of construction
if contractor adopt false construction technique then problem may arise.
proper co ordination is main problem i.e. top management to middle and lower management

India is known for the ample amount of cheap labour which attracts many Multinational companies to invest in india.
But in case of construction projects, today we find more complex projects which require skilled labours for successful completion of any project in given time.
But this is one of the most common problem we find in construction feild the avability of skilled labours is less compared to unskilled labours.
Therefore there is a need to convert this section of unskilled labours into skilled labours by proper tranning programs.
