I would like to research translanguaging at graduate school from next year. I have read some research papers and books, but still I am not really sure the potential use of translanguging.
Check out Li Wei, he is a chair in UCL department of Education. He has several papers in relation to translanguaging. His paper is comprehensible enough to give you a general picture of what subject is all about.
You have to be comfortable with the literatures on this one first. Ofelia Garcia, Li Wei and Suresh Canagarajah have a lot of things to offer to you. Then, you can reevaluate the language practices and policies in your context, especially the most contested "English-only" policy (EOP).
Pedagogical translanguaging in EFL contexts allows learners to draw on their full linguistic repertoire, promoting deeper understanding and language transfer. It fosters learner confidence, especially when exploring complex ideas, and supports identity affirmation in multicultural classrooms. This approach also enhances classroom participation and encourages more meaningful communication.
