For two decades now we have been hearing about '21st century skills' & core competencies such as collaboration, critical thinking, communication, & creativity together with digital tech skills & citizenship skills -- all needed by 21st century learners. But there are many versions of these & they are often nuanced.
When it comes to 'digital literacy' or 'digital literacies' there has been a moving feast of options & models. More & more we are needing to develop better discernment skills - spotting fake news & irresponsible reporting, especially with all the eye-catching infographics & data visualization tools available. In other words, we are needing skills in 'data literacy' - skills that are somewhat more sophisticated than knowing how to manipulate the presentation of data to tell a lie, or at least distort the truth
An example of the kind of activity I'm interested in: the BBC has developed a great game for school kids to help them spot fake news
