I am gathering information on these mistakes and problems to use in seminar course. I have gathered information about it in different references, but experience in this area is more valuable than simply theory - especially from different colleagues around the world.

The most common mistakes are ;
Objectives not relevant to the rest of the project, incorrect hypothesis, statement of purpose unclear, material and methods impractical and so on !!
Inefficiency of the supervisor to help design the proposal according to the available facilities.
Not many people realise this, but proposal time is the first opportunity the supervisor gets to really see what the candidates can research and write by themselves and therefore to reject or accept the candidates. The proposal is a foretaste of the thesis-book. Research and write your proposal well.

Sometimes a proposal which has been checked by the supervisor and finalized, is given sever comments by members of the research committee. And therefore, student run out of time prepares a new one without much effort.
