I am embarking on an exploratory research project on secondary metabolites of marine organisms particularly on sea stars and brittle stars. What natural products should I consider first? Im looking for a list of natural products and various methods I can use to identify and quantify them. I am planning to do zoochemical analyses, in vitro antioxidant activity, and cytotoxicity.

I know only a bit of answer for sea stars. Saponins, pigments are common in sea stars. I have isolated Astaxanthin pigment from valvatid sea stars Protoreaster nodosus and Pentaceraster regulus. One of my friends has isolated collagen from P. regulus and carried out antioxidant activity. I have extracted crude metabolites from Astropecten indicus using high polar solvents shown good activity against human pathogen causing urinary tract infection.
For extraction, use high polar solvents and for isolation use low polar solvents.
