(1) cost of consultants to conduct mussel surveys in a large river where SCUBA will be required
(2) cost to contract mussel production from a hatchery
(a) Is the cost per mussel or per year regardless of production?
(b) What is the cost for in vitro production?

Hi,
its difficult to say. Depends on many things... In bad visibility, 100 m long visual&tactile mussel transect will take anything between 30 - 90 minutes for experienced diver. The identification work on surface will take time as well (maybe 30 min if relatively easy species/experienced analyst). I do not think there are many divers who want do more than 4 transects per day. Especially if the river is large and dozens of dives are required. Probably crew of 2 divers plus one surface person can do 3 - 6 (100m) transects a day. But again, these are very rough estimates and depend on site conditions, number of mussels found, need for underwater line placement, need for transportation between sites etc etc. I do not have experience about timed searches or quadrat searches.
