I am working on a study using an EM conductivity meter, and in some areas I am getting negative conductivity readings. I have read literature and the negative readings have been attributed to the presence of vertical fractures. Others have also attributed it to the presence of buried material underground. Aside these two reasons, can there be any reason why I am getting the negative conductivity values?

Do you have any known conductivity standards in place that you can check your readings? If you do not have any standards to check your conductivity measures, you can make your own conductivity standard if you have access to potassium chloride and pure distilled water using the method linked here: http://www.yeokal.com.au/downloads/manuals/YeoKal%20-%20Standard%20Calibrations.pdf
