I red that for these novel steels, only the mechanical properties are mentioned to be modified/improved... As you know, even corrosion performances are a fundamental aspect to consider when "new steels" and in general "new metallic materials" are proposed. So, my curisity is on the possible ideas of the authors in this sense. I specify that corrosion of metals is my specialization.

Sir, my findings are that Non-heat treated sample of AISI-4340 steel exhibited higher corrosion rate than Q & P heat treated samples. I have worked on that and my research article is in review process. I ll share that with you soon
Corrosion largely depends on the environment. When developing new metals and alloys, usually the multifactor effect are needed to be taken into account. For instance, radiation, high temperature and corrosion for nuclear energy, or extra low temperature, high pressure and corrosion for Arctic gas pipelines, etc. In addition, there are several types of corrosion - uniform, nodular, shadow corrosion, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, etc. When one process is improved, onother one can be deteriorated.
OK, corrosion depends on enviroments but at the same time on materials. In particular, it depends on to their microstucture in correspondance of the surface in contact with the environment. Since Novel Steels are proposed, the matter of this discussion is if this project considers stratetegies not only directed to improve mechanical properties but also the performances of interaction with the environment. There are cases where the material has high mechanical properties but in particular corrosive enviroments, these properties are significantly reduced so that material is not more suggested for some applications.
