I'm currently doing research on critical reading skills. In my context - and for the specific purposes of my study - I view critical reading skills as those reflective skills required for managing online data (resources) that involve processes such as: (1) gleaning the most important and relevant pieces of information; (2) making critical, informed judgement of online information; (3) comparing and contrasting reliability of the online data by investigating multiple resources on the same topic; making use of cues to identify relevant and important ideas; (4) going beyond the simple decoding and comprehension of the online text; and (5) employing critical thinking skills and strategies while investigating web-based information to discover its accuracy, validity, reliability, and appropriateness to the task at hand.
