My question is; is there a scientifically proven method to pick which watermelon is the best to buy? 🍉🤔
I tried some of the "traditional" ways, but with inconsistent results.. 😅

I was told a new way the other day. The heavier the watermelon keeping size constant, the more sugar it has and the sweeter it is. It seems to work - I presume this could also be tested.

As we are in Biotechnology revolution the colour of fruit not makes any significance change.
There is some marking done by the seller to identify good piece , kindly ask which marking they are making in your local area ,
This will help you in picking good piece

water melon with a yellow burn like patch on one place is good. Most of the sellers show a cut piece. we can observe it and get some idea.
You may look for the following traits that ensure ripeness: shiny waxed skin, yellow-white ground-spot (the underside of the fruit in contact with the soil), deep rather than metallic sound when the fruit is hit on the side with your thumb. All the above are generally indicative of a ripe watermelon; but ripe does not necessarily mean sweet and firm... There is also the possibility of a fruit having the above traits and being overripe, in which case the pulp might not be very firm, particularly at the core. Freshness is another trait to look for, given that watermelon shelf-life under ambient conditions does not exceed 10 days, after which quality rapidly deteriorates. You can tell if a watermelon was picked within 4-5 days by looking at the stem end. If it is still green you have a fresh watermelon.
