Has anyone experienced VMD crashing with a segmentation fault when selecting the QuickSurf representation? I am seeing this after updating to BigSur and installed version 1.9.4a.51.
Other representation selections (e.g. Surf) work fine. Other apps like Chimera and PyMOL are working fine.
Is it a big system? the segmentation fault normally happens when is trying to access to a restricted memory or when the amount of data collapses your memory.
Hi Juan de Gracia , the system is ca. 150 k. atoms but I tried showing only 5 atoms and representing them with QuickSurf and the same error persists.
I have the same after upgrading to Big Sur. I assume there are some things that still require fixing. I would use Surf instead if it is just 5 atoms.
Then certainly there is something to do with the code, probably is damping the memory. Anyway I have tried with a 70 atoms molecule and works fine, so even thought you have selected a portion of the molecule the algorithm is running along the whole thing. Maybe is a good idea to report this issue to the developers.
Dimitrios Kolokouris Had the same problem. First change `Coloring Method` to `ColorID`, then select `Drawing Method`/`QuickSurF`.
Does it still crash?
Ardalan Hayatifar it is resolved by updating to the latest vmd version for me, now running big sur.
