I need to know, whether a polymer as in PMMA can absorb UV radiation and if so what is the electronic transition going on in it when its doped with Metal oxides, can it cut-off the short UV wavelength?
Its is well known, due to chain scission - polymer would degrade under such high radiation but with some doping, it could withstand.
if so, what could be mechanism electronically going on inside the polymer matrix as the UV photon radiation energy getting absorbed by PMMA/ Metal oxides while absorbing energy could excite the electrons to jump to higher energy level but whether the electron after staying in Upper energy level reverting back to it original position or it is somewhere trapped in matrix?
How? Need to know the mechanism running behind?
