I'm a Phd student in Urban Regeneration and Economic Development and I'm investigating the potential of Microfinance and CDFIs in Urban Regeneration projects.
Hello Alfonso! The large majority of studies regarding urban regeneration and microfinance focus on developing countries/regions/urban poor and migrant communities. You can find such papers in Sage Journals - Local economy -. Good luck! Monica
Thank you Monica! That's the reason that I'm focusing my research on that.
Entrepreneurship and micro enterprises, fostered by CDFIs and Microcredit might be a successful strategy in order not have displacement and to focus on human capital ;)
I remember a work about the Mibanco microfinance Bank in Peru, it had a type of microcredit specially for housing called Micasa (my house in spanish). It was quite successfull. In Ecuador there is something similar but I don´t remember it´s origin. What I can say, is that the authors of that paper expressed the idea that microfinance and housing match perfectly because people with low incomes make their house in a kind of "developmental" way, little by little, and that is also the way microfinance works.
When I was in Hong Kong in 2013-2104, the government had started to provide state fund to develop Hong Kong's microfinance sector. This is to address Hong Kong's inequality, which is highest among developed countries/city-states. Microfinance in Hong Kong may address issues related to urban working poor population, the elderly, the disabled, etc.
Hello Alfonso, I would suggest you review Mohammad Yunnis' work. He developed microfinance programs, Grameen bank, in Sri Lanka. http://muhammadyunus.org/
