Froth Flotation has truly changed the mining/mineral/ metal industry and is one of the most revolutionary surface chemical separation technique. Temperature effects strongly influence the flotation performance both physically and chemically. Flotation operations in cold climates are therefore objective of my research work. Any valuable feedbacks in term of reference material and/or suggestions are highly appreciated.

Lots of froth flotation practiced in northern climates - northern Ontario gold mines, Thompson and Raglan nickel mines, Red Dog zinc mine in Alaska, Norilsk nickel operations in Russia. They all seem to work well. But for base metals at least, it always follows grinding, which imparts lots of energy to the ores and therefore warms them up. May have a bigger impact on more dilute pulp flotation, where more cold water is recycled to the mill, than on more dense pulp flotation which will be closer to the ground pulp temperature. Interesting question.
In my opinion, there is no clear influence of temperature on the flotation process. I am sending you an article (in Polish) on the influence of temperature on the flotation kinetics of copper shale. Fig. 2 shows the copper yield as a function of time for 3 different foaming agents at 15, 25 and 35 oC. Figure 3b shows the direct dependence of the Cu recovery as a function of temperature for the reagents C2E2, C4E2 and C6E2. Generally, it can be concluded that the copper yield in the flotation process decreases with increasing temperature.

La temperatura no afecta el rendimiento de la flotación, lo que si afecta es la calidad del agua.
En climas fríos como Cerro de Pasco - Perú a 4380 msnm, no hay congelación del agua en los procesos, no tenemos problemas en flotación.
En la Patagonia, donde la temperatura es a bajo ceros grados, ahí la flotación es un problema, por la cristalización del agua, no permite que fluya bien, hay asentamiento de carga, como también en los canales de las celdas de flotación ahí se congela el agua y tienen que picar con cinceles para retirar el material flotado en trozos.
