What are trends of technological improvements in the different field of science and engineering with environmental concerns? Lets have a discussion to be familiar with area of research and how they approach environmental issues.
The main trends of technological improvements, in the fields of science and engineering with environmental concerns, are directed to: a) energy (supplementary) production, b) carbon sequestration (environmental viewpoint), and c) circular economy of materials and natural resources (economic viewpoint/valuation of environmentally-centered sources). Actually, all technological improvements sustain (or should sustain) a positive economic impact upon functioning, thus, their successful implementation is commonly determined by the social cohesion and the governmental regulations' adopted/abided.
This is an excellent question about which we can be writing a lot, especially since it is a field in constant theoretical elaboration. I have done a Masters in the STS with Spanish and Cuban experts, hence my inclination for this topic. First; I believe that the technologies resulting from the great advances in current science and technology should facilitate greater access to citizen control, should be flexible technologies that respond to the interests of customers and respect local identities. Secondly; I am very sure that the technologies that result from these developments have to go more and more towards the elimination of the use of fossil fuels, they must use the so-called alternative sources of energy. By the way, alternatives, in the new technological scientific scenario, have nothing. They are simply relevant sources of energy that with these technologies are very accessible. In third place; A technological process that from the nanotechnologies facilitates the miniaturization of technological devices that are more efficient and use less material resources should take precedence. In fourth place; it is necessary that technologies appear that are capable of incorporating elements of natural processes, that is; that are close to the cycles of nature, this will facilitate, for example, the biodegradation of waste. Keep in mind that many technologies do not respect the absorption capacity of ecosystems and end up saturating natural sinks making life impossible and rendering many regions useless for the development of productive activities. In fifth place; I think it is urgent that new technologies arise in the field of urban waste processing, which would significantly reduce the use of materials extracted from primary reserves. In sixth place; and this is a great concern that I have since my trips to the Amazon rainforest, we have to develop technologies that are capable of incorporating in their manufacture, in their use and management of the knowledge of ancestral communities, especially everything related to productions “Sustainable” of these communities that modern technologies “ignore”. In eighth place; I believe that we must facilitate less intensive technologies in the use of natural resources, which facilitate the use of appropriate technologies, where the transfer of technologies reaches from acquisition, assimilation to diffusion, increasing citizen participation every day. These are just some ideas, as we work the same field of science we can continue to exchange on the subject.
Some of the technological trends include: carbon capture and storage: products from waste biomass such as biodesel, biochar, bio-oil and other biomaterials : energy efficiency :
Thank You all respected researchers for your view. Lets here more on it. I have lots of expectation from this discussion with coordination from experts in each particular field.
