If you can assess what people fear most (the things that pull them to believing disinformation in the first place), perhaps you can use those same motives to make believing disinformation aversive.
A brilliant behavioral health counselor, Libby Shaw, made the comparison of critical media to condom use i.e. "They're available, but how do you get people to use them?"
It seems like you could make the consequences of "not using condoms" as terrifying as the symptoms of STDS and making people aware of the people most likely to spread this disease.
Invasion, loss of identity, emasculation could all be 'symptoms' of believing disinformation.
There are many people and organisations that do this. The people Samantha you may assume are credible, I may not. There's the problem. Supposing the condom you use for protection is defective, what then? I suggest people need disinformation, as any more than that is difficult.
I'm having trouble understanding your last sentence. Can you unpack that for me?
I'll give distant examples as we may not agree on all areas of disinformation.
If a plague strikes and there's no cure you might be told holy incense will protect you. It won't, but hope is better than no hope. This goes hand in hand with believing what you told regarding religion.
In the 1950s people were told that if they if they upturned their kitchen tables they'd be safe from atomic blasts and people believed it. Of course there was no immediate protection. People need to trust, its part of existence.
At times they need, positively need, to trust governments.
Some intelligent people on here do not believe in climate change. They provide reasons. Trouble is, they say that of those who do. We are here into the nature of information, not psychology.
