Huge benefits have been reaped from collaboration between buyers, suppliers and logistics service providers. The Kraljic matrix, the Kamann Cube and the Bensaou model provide means to assess the collaboration value of a given supply chain partner. It has been argued that 3PLs suffer a significant amount of "squeezing" from their customers - a practice associated with transactional purchasing of commodities rather than strategic partnerships.

To what extent is this statement true? If it is true, what will be the effect on collaborative potential in the 3PL industry; and what will be the effect on value creation and total cost to the supply chain?
