I understand the FWh is not suitable to model muffler reflections but I think it will take the pressure loss input over time. Anybody used FWH to model muffler noise
I think it is not possible, because noise in exhaust systems stems from different effects, which are more complex to model. Besides gas dynamics, which includes flow and pressure characteristics in tubes and volumes, reflections and interferences, the stimulation and eigenmode behavior of the exhaust components (including mounting) plays an important role.
Yes, the flow is complex but it can be modeled using CFD. Of course we need to come up with assumption. At least there should be a way to evaluate muffler design based on its noise performance. I am talking here only about flow induced noise.
Considering flow influence noise only, the gas dynamic effects can be simulated by CFD. But please consider, that flow induced noise is only a part of the noise of an exhaust system.
