Hi Pranita. A hierarchical classification of wetlands for New Zealand was developed as a tool to aid monitoring of wetland extent and health. I'm not a wetlands specialist so am unable to advise on the application of Reed's work to India. However, it may be worth looking at the NZ work as well, as it might give you a wider perspective of regional variations and other models that exist and may be helpful. See eg. http://www.doc.govt.nz/documents/science-and-technical/WetlandsBW.pdf
It is always better to use your own wetlands with historical and present data in order to establish an índex correctly or at least to have reference conditions from your own cases
