During assignment of the electronic absorptions for a specific compound, to be more accurate, I am wondering what do we name those absorptions; bands or peaks? I am asking this question because I noticed that there two terms are alternatively used in the articles and books. Thank you so much in an advance. All the best, Mostafa
The absorption observed in UV Vis spectroscopy is because when electron transition takes place from lower energy band (VB) to high energy (CB) after it has absorbed a certain frequency of incoming light radiation which is greater than the forbidden eneegy gap (Eg).
So this transition is given by a 'peak' and it occurs due to 'band' transition of electrons.
