I am wondering if anyone who has experience with the K99 award (either reviewing or submitting) might suggest a few tips for things that you feel make applications stand out. Obviously a great research strategy is the most important facet, but what extra items do you think push an application over the top? What pitfalls should be avoided?

In addition to providing links that helped me write my grant, I also go through the grant development process that really worked for me. Keys were significant planning before writing a word, developing your network of mentors, and paying equal attention to your career documents. Ideally, one should plan for a resubmission which really increases your chances.
