Do we, with time, actually learn to reconcile with our disappointments or we just learn to live with them by ignoring them and looking into other things in life for distraction and finding solace?
While the importance of time is irrational and unphilosophical for Jimmy Y. Zhong, we should not forget its importance in our daily life. Science is incomplete without time. Even in Einstein's theory of relativity, time is an essential dimension along with space. Whatever change is taking place around us, it is happening with respect to time. Even a change in mentality also does not take place in a vacuum. It needs some amount of time.
Our Ancestors knew the importance of time. They had fixed a certain amount of time for each ritual, whether good or bad. For example- when a person (Hindu) die in India, several activities are performed over thirteen days so that people can forget the grief and return to normal. That is true in other religions too.
Thank you Prof. Singh for your deeply interesting and thought provoking reply, but do you believe that everything heals everything with passage of time?
There is no other option with us. Ups and downs are part of life. One can not remain fixed at one position for infinite. Where there are cities today, used to be forests some time back and vice versa. Look around you, you will found several examples of people returning to normal after devastation. Time is eternal truth. Perhaps you might be aware of the famous Akbar Birbal story - " Ye waqt bhi gujar jayega " So, yes everything heals with passage of time.
Jimmy Y. Zhong , I am happy that you appreciate the value of time. Konstantinos Karampelas , you are right to point out that apart from time, other factors are also responsible for healing. our life revolves around the continuum of pain and pleasure. It is a sum total of activities that we perform in our life, whether good or bad. The moment one activity finish, another is waiting for us. So, essentially we are never free for a moment. Healing depends on the kind of activity that we perform in our day to day life. All these activities took place over a period of time, giving the cliche " time heals everything" as pointed out by Jimmy Y. Zhong .
