What would be interesting topic to write about on either lighting, 3D software, acoustics, materials, or interiors of public spaces for dissertation/thesis?
These are very wide areas, and there are so many topics to work on. If you are looking for a topic for your own research, I would highly encourage you to focus on what you like and what you're good at. Because, you're going to spend pretty long time in that area and it may become your profession in the future. One practical way is that you read some papers in the areas you mentioned. See what the authors pointed out as the "future works". Pick one of them that you like most and feel more prepared to do research on.
