I like this article. It highlights the preeminence predictive function of the brain which emerges now from neuroscience research. I think that few others in the Psychology field had highlighted this major role of prediction and anticipation in human life like George A. Kelly, and his seminal two volumes on “The Psychology of Personal Constructs” (1955 reprinted in 1991). Interestingly, with the Repertory Grid Technique derived from his original approach (now much improved) the construction of self and others can be studied in detail for a single individual and also measures such as self-“ideal self” discrepancy, cognitive conflicts and other measures can be compared across groups.

Self-"ideal self" discrepancy is a measure derived from the Repartory Grid Technique. A short summary of this technique can be found in the appendix of our paper at

More on that on my publications here in researchgate. But it is not simple questionnaire. It is a structured interview that needs some training. To compensate for the complex administration, it gives you a very nice picture of the individual according to his own constructions (with his own terms) and also a series of other measures such as cognitive complexity (differentiation), polarization, and cogntiive conflicts, for me the most interesting one.
