I performed an experiment in the lab whereby I used a round bottom flask containing sodic soil mixed with gypsum. The mouth was sealed with a two way connector, ensuring the addition of distilled water and the release of gases, which were collected in lime water. The entire experiment was ensured so as not to have any external manipulation. I got ppts of a white colored CaCO3.
The quantity of CO2 liberated during sodic soil reclamation must be less than the amount of CO2 released after burning agricultural waste. Worldwide application of gypsum for reclamation of sodic soil is not much at high rate,
I understand, But what about India, World bank sponsored this reclamation programme. Secondly we can not ignore any single possible source of un-natural CO2. As the GWP of CO2 is 1 and is one of the gases of major concern. Gypsum can produce CO2 on mixing with sodic soil. Should we really ignore this fact?
