Today European Research & Innovation days starts and right now taken part in the discussion on the future of plastics? It will be interesting to know what is your opinion. One of the angle of discussion was to used more recycled and biobase plastics, however the representatives of industry do not support the idea. Also they states that they need better quality recycling materials.
Plastics have a bright future. There is no way without plastics....
The question is: How is it possible to minimize the pollution of earth and water.
Where good and cheap alternatives are possible: The material of products will change (mainly not recycling material). Harmless Materials and materials which will disintegrate without producing micro particles will play an important role.
I do not think bio based synthetic plastic is the (only) future. Of course the CO2 footprint will be significantly lower than with fossil plastic.... but the potential pollution risk is the same. Thus, fossil plastics will remain as the 1st choice to produce plastics
- Plastic will remain the need of society. However there will be a structural change in its uses. scientist has to find the alternate use keeping the safety of human as well as civilization.
Yesterday saw that researchers are transforming TV set in textile instead of plastic. So maybe we can move in some fields of production to the other materials than plastics
Plastics in general, alternative for fossil plastics, and combinations of plastics with other (renewable) materials is a growing sector.
I believe that researchers in this area will deliver a lot of innovations in the near future!
