It is noticed from the questions on  advanced solar cell structures such as thin film metallic and organic structures that they suffer from relatively low open circuit voltage, high ideality factor  n >2. All types of solar cells must be electrically accessed through metallic contacts. While the active part of the cell may function properly, The metal contacts can detract massively the performance of the cell if they are not well designed and fabricated. Really, the effect of the MS contacts can be very serious. Ideally they must be made ohmic with low resistance. This is not always the case. This paper introduces the effect of MS contact on the electrical behavior of solar cells in full details and how to separate the iv characteristic of the active cell from the MS contact. It contains techniques that can be applied for investigating such effect.
