Is it just a serious case of terminological confusion, or is the nomenclature actually correct? Regarding the Cantalloc Aqueducts near Nazca in Peru, I see those spiral structures as "Air Wells" and not as "Aqueducts". The aqueduct will run along under those air wells. Air Wells operate on the principle that condensation from the atmosphere gathers on the cold stones at night time and adds more water down into the aqueduct below.
While there is certainly an aqueduct at the site, those spiral structures themselves don't fit with the standard meaning of the word. Surely they are air wells. Does anybody know otherwise?
