1) to publish one or more paper(s) based on your own work (your academic project) or
2) to find useful papers from other's projects that can be of benefit to you or
3) to manage your papers based on various criteria - citation count/index, impact factor, project etc.
All of these are of great interest to me as well, so I'm opened for comments.
Me personally, usually I do the following:
1) in time of the preparation of the project I try to describe as much as possible the details of separate stages; then I try to catch some more general trend in the work progress; next I try to compile in a paper one or more most topical aspects. Sometimes the global picture of the whole project can also be published.
My question here is: how to get the most out of every project without compromising the quality?
2) I try to always include citations that are based on real papers that I've read and that have some real impact on my work or at least on my way of thinking. Sometimes these could be completely unknown authors, but who have impacted my mind somehow. The next criteria is the popularity of the author - there are indeed some authors who are really important in given field - I always try to find those authors and to extract something useful from their papers, then I know for sure they deserve to be cited.
My concerns here: what is the best way to follow the state of the art, how to be most informed in the field and to benefit from this?
3) usually I use Google scholar and some scientific databases but I experience some difficulties in finding citations for example. There is a software tool that I use from time to time - Harzing Publish or Perish.
It depends upon how useful your project towards society and library. if it can give a good response to decrease the cost time and other aspects that are required for user prospective . then you can share your ideas in to a paper from your project
I agree with Yassen. To extract papers from a project there are many questions which should be answered. It is not simple to write a good paper and it needs to explore more criteria in a specific subject.
I think that it depends on how useful findings are there in the academic project which can be industrially applicable or can be useful in any other aspects. If it is successful in giving a clear understanding of the topic discussed with proper results and conclusion of the problem, then you can share your findings through a Research Paper.
This depends on the topic of the project as well as the novelty of the approach compared to the state of the art in the subject matter and the relevance of the results. If the project provides answers to relevant research questions then you start by first stating the research problem, providing a brief review of the state of the art in the subject matter, clearly stating the novelty of the approach/method compared to the existing works then providing the details of the work with illustrations using either simulation or experimental results. In the conclusion you might summarize the work then suggest some possible future works or improvements to the proposed approach.
I agree with the most of response. I think extract any papers from academic project is the main and important part for any researchers. To do this important, I think the following steps are important:
1) Defined the problem statements
2) Defined the objectives and divided into multi parts.
3) Doing each parts based on previous and or new information
4)Review of literature is very important, so we must to write some review papers based on literature review.
5) Methodology: This part is very very important in any project and papers. so we should to know why this method is the best??? and we should to compare it and proof it's better and ...
6)we should to write a good report for each part and this report should to help us to extract any papers.
According to the previous discuss related to PBL (Project based learning) collaboration. I am a team leader and research scientist, working for a research center and Mechatronics, Intelligent System and Robotics Laboratory called Iranian Institute of Advance Science and Technology (IRAN SSP), Feb 2009 to date. Iranian center of Advance Science and Technology (IRAN SSP) is one of the independent research centers specializing in research and training across of Control and Automation, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Mechatronics & Robotics in Iran. At IRAN SSP research center, we are united and energized by one mission to discover and develop innovative engineering methodology that solve the most important challenges in field of advance science and technology. The IRAN SSP Center of Development Research and Training is instead to fill a long standing void in applied engineering by linking the training a development function one side and policy research on the other. This center divided into two main units:
• Education unit
• Research and Development unit
In this center I have two responsibilities: the first one is related to research center and the second one is related to education unit.
Due to head of Mechatronics, Intelligent System and Robotics Laboratory, I should to offer industrial expertise and strengths in electrical and computer engineering complemented with a passion for research and development with a concentration in analysis of dynamical systems and design of modern/intelligent controllers. In addition, I am led of team to design and build of intelligent controller for robot and development of software based on FPGA, team supervisor, to design and implement robust controller for internal combustion engine to improve the system performance, team leader and advisor of intelligent robust control of flexible robot with application to surgical industry, and led of team to design micro-based controller for spherical motor and development of system controller based on MATLAB and FPGA. Thrive on finding optimum solutions to problems. A good eye for identifying interesting areas for investigation, creativity to generate compelling new concepts, and the ability to quickly test and express concepts in the form of functional prototypes.
According to improve the educational unit, creating Project-based learning educational method in IRAN SSP Education unit and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, other disciplines, and students.
From 2011 to date our researcher have been doing 4 project as follows:
(1) Led of team to design and build of intelligent controller for robot and development of software based on FPGA and published about 51 Papers in this field since 2011 to date.
(2) Team supervisor, to design and implement robust controller for internal combustion engine to improve the system performance and published about 17 Journal papers since 2011 to date.
(3) Team leader and advisor of intelligent robust control of flexible robot with application to surgical industry and published about 31 journal papers in this field since 2012 to date.
(4) Led of team to design micro-based controller for spherical motor and development of system controller based on MATLAB and FPGA and published about 7 journal papers in this field since 2014 to date.
So if you also would like to collaborate with this center, please send your academic CV to me ([email protected]) .
